I saw Some celebrity hat designers were doing burnt hats around the time.
my starting point was an accident. I burnt pale colour felt while shaping,
then I thought painted stained felt might be also neat idea.
and later, Vancouver’s famous potter Janaki Larsen asked me if I bury hats in the ground.
So I buried some felt hats and other clothes for a few month in the back yard. I got distinctive beautiful textures that almost disturbing like seeing a mummy.
cleaned, stained with natural dye, put more details.
Sashiko stitches, weathered cloth band..
very intricate details hats were born that no one can make the same one again. (even me haha)
I wrote about this story before on IG and probably on this blog, that buried cloth idea’s originator is Hussein Chalayan, his debut in 90s.
Anyways more details about the weathered hat is in my store
